DeLong Elementary creates assistant principal position; dean promoted

delongTacoma Public Schools promoted DeLong Elementary Dean of Students Kristeanna Devenuti to the school’s new position of assistant principal beginning July 1.

Prior to her one-year stint as dean at DeLong this school year, Devenuti taught second through fifth grades at Clover Park School District for eight years. She earned a bachelor’s degree with teaching certification from Antioch University and a master’s degree with administrative credentials from Capella University.

“I am humbled to be the first assistant principal for DeLong and I’m thrilled to remain on the school’s dedicated team in my new capacity,” said Devenuti. “The greatest gift I can give to the world is my time and energy spent educating youth and supporting teachers and families.”

DeLong, located on Tacoma’s west side, now has the second largest elementary student population in the district with 560 students. Due to its large enrollment increase, TPS created an assistant principal position and eliminated the dean of students position. While Devenuti will continue with duties she had as dean, she will assume more responsibility as assistant principal. She will focus on student and staff safety, academic achievement and family involvement.
