CPR Sunday, an annual community event offered free–of–charge to anyone interested in learning basic lifesaving skills, will take place on Sunday, Oct. 11. While learning the fundamentals of CPR, participants will be given an opportunity to practice on CPR manikins and learn how to use automated external defibrillator (AED) devices.
Participants can also expect:
- More than 50 certified Basic Life Support instructors
- 1.5 hours of classroom training and an hour of hands-on training
- Four class options: 8 a.m., 10 a.m., noon, or 2 p.m. (with Spanish interpreters available at the 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. classes and American Sign Language interpreters at the 10 a.m. class)
Participants will also learn:
- What happens when one calls 9-1-1
- How to assess the level of need of someone in distress
- Adult/child/infant CPR and how to address an obstructed airway
- Essentials of a home first aid kit
Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a Tacoma Fire Department “citizen level” CPR card (good for two years).
CPR Sunday will be held at Foss High School (2112 S. Tyler St.). Pre-registration is required at cprsunday.net. Those with additional questions can contact Firefighter Craig Hanna at (253) 594-7979.
